Finally, the wait is over! The second full length trailer for The Dark Knight is up and it is all kinds of cool. Unlike the feeling left by the two Incredible Hulk trailers, I feel like there's plenty of scary Joker goodness waiting for me in the theatre.
Maybe it was the long wait, maybe it's just that there's a point of excitement one reaches, but this trailer seems kind of ... understated? I don't want to say flat, because it is anything but -- yet compared to the explosions and shrill laughter of the first, this one suddenly brought Batman back into the real world. When the bootleg was leaked, my e-mail box was flooded with people complaining that Ledger was too "gritty" and "realistic" in his performance. I don't share the complaints, but the Joker is definitely missing the eerie, superhuman element. I like it, but I can see why many might not.
Love the foreshadowing surrounding poor Harvey Dent. I'm already half in love with the handsome D.A.; I can't wait to see how Nolan handles his fall from grace. Watch it, and rave about it. Or complain. I think this might be the trailer that divides an audience -- I'm watching the comments to see! The Dark Knight hits theatres July 18th.

I think Nolan knows how to make batman [the character AND the franchise] a detective drama - as I believe it should be. Character and story is what he's all about. So I agree, I'm excited. If u need more cheese from a joker, watch jack work in the first batman.

Plenty of odes to the Killing Joke and the first Batman movie.
This is the only movie I'm actually really physched for at the moment.

I think Ledger did a good job from what I can tell. I thought this reboot was supposed to be grittier than the other movies. it seems to be ok to me. i agree with HugKennyLoggins.

Complaints of Ledger being 'too gritty and realistic'? I thought that's what we LOVED about the Nolan Batmans. How they are rooted in reality. That he's given real reasons behind the suit, and makeup, and brought these characters into the real world. Will watching the Joker make me uncomfortable? I still am skeptical about how dark a PG-13 film will get, but I hope it surpasses my expectations. I can distance myself from the fictioius character an actor is playing. I'm looking forward to "The DARK Knight".

I was at Comic Con when they surprised us with the trailer. Everyone loved it. In the weeks since, I believe people who hadn't seen it were anticipating it as if it was going to be the best trailer ever. The TDK campaign made a big mistake by waiting so long to put it up. Had it gone live last Monday everyone would have loved it and there would be no division.

If people complain that the Joker is lacking the eerie, superhuman element, well they don't know the Joker. He's not superhuman, he's a lunatic with a jacked up face, and that's about it.
He has no powers, except maybe the power of persuasion. He's a man pushed to the edge, (and then over the edge into a vat of acid) who starts pushing back in his own lunatic way.
Ledger looks awesome as the Joker and this one's second on my list only to Indy.

The new Indiana Jones trailer and now this does not really do much for me. I didnt expect much from Batman Begins and Iron Man but it blew me away. I have a feeling TDK might disappoint many and indeed cause a major divide among fans. There's already the existing rivals between the Nolanites and Burtonites and this one will only widen the gap.

But they lack the attention to detail that Mr. Nolan has provided us. Heath Ledgers performance as the joker will go down as one of the best portrayals of an iconic character that we have gotten so far.
The Dark Knight will be the best movie of 2008.

That would be impressive if there existed even 3 really good comic book movies. Batman Begins was pretty good but still about a 7 out of 10 in my eyes - muddled action, lack of a real villain and low energy sorta sucked the life from the movie.
"Iron Man was sweet" - and boring, missing villains, missing side characters, lacking any drama and filled with boring CGI of silly robots fighting. But otherwise, it was sweet - wait, the only sweet thing was Downey and he's good in everything. Subtract him and you're left with nothing but one character.

And yet he gave us Begins, which has many flaws from a story and especially directing point of view.

Doubtful. Ledger's been turned into some kind of demigod after committing suicide. Why he's revered so online is a mystery as he only had one runaway success, one mild hit and a resume loaded with tiny parts and inconsequential/awful films.

If this is the same trailer I saw with Iron Man, then "understated" is definitely my feeling as well. Maybe it was because we sat thru at least 8-10 trailers before the feature, but both the Indiana Jones and the Batman trailers seemed very subdued, and off tempo. Neither generated much excitement or interest with the crowd I was with (who gave Iron Man an ovation at the end).
I think it showed too much of Dent, too much Maggie Gyllendal, and, too much of the Joker. We don't need to see the whole damn film in a trailer-leave some suspense. Dent sitting with half his face in gasoline? Wow..wonder what happens next?

I hope the Joker gets rid of Maggie Gyllenhaal. Its weird Im more excited to see The Hulk movie than TDK. Ledger feels like he's trying way toooooo hard and Bruce and Harvey battling over Maggie is one hilarious love story.
Those guys have lousy taste in women.

How is the Joker superhuman? the idea of the world of Batman (ex- a few characters from the comic/ animated series) is that it is a near-realistic world which I think is portrayed by this film and also by its characters.
Joker has always been portrayed a sick and demented villian who kills for nothing more than sheer joy (and others' pain) which I think is portrayed greatly in the pieces of the movie seen thus far.
